Superhero: I’ve seen enough store-bought Harley Quinns for a lifetime, but sure, Lady Gaga’s Harlequin. And if you’re considering being the Joker? In the year 2024? Seek help.

Anything Super Bowl Related: Praying that I see people wearing Lil Jon’s Halftime Show outfit, because I still haven’t forgotten it. Usher’s COMING HOME. Kendrick’s “Not Like Us” if you want to prepare to hear it 5 times in a row in next year’s Halftime Show.
T*yl*r Sw*ft: I’m not going to say TTPD because I respectfully don’t endorse🖤. But I DO love these former openers of hers: Beabadoobee’s This Is How Tomorrow Moves, Suki Waterhouse’s Memoir of a Sparklemuffin, and Griff’s Vertigo. And if you’re making your boyfriend dress up as Travis Kelce, I wish you both a very happy This Video of Travis Singing1.
BBL Drizzy: Men rapping at/arguing with each other is my blindspot, but this is the funniest costume I’ve ever seen.
Olympics: Sports were forever changed thanks to Trent Reznor / Atticus Ross’ Challengers soundtrack. If you miss unending drone shots of Paris, maybe you’ll like French records like La Femme’s Rock Machine, L’Imperatrice’s Pulsar, and Laetitia Sadier’s Rooting For Love.
Lana Del Rey & her Gator Husband: Holly Macve’s Wonderland is a deadringer for Lana’s early hits. Doechii’s Alligator Bites Never Heal for relevant reasons. Kayce Musgraves’ Deeper Well because, sorry, she’s headed straight for divorce.
Inside Out: Okay hear me out there is one song by The Script called “Inside Out” from their incredibly corny 2024 album so it tracks.
The Bear: Again? You’re likely a straight guy from the midwest. Just gonna say American Football (Covers) and leave it at that.
Wicked: Good news: You shan’t be shamed for liking musicals here. It’s giving Mean Girls movie and Ingrid Michaelson’s The Notebook. The brand new concept album Warriors by Lin Manuel Miranda & Eisa Davis. And my personal favorite… TEETH.
Indie sleaze: Vampire Weekend’s Only God Was Above Us for the aging hipsters, The Dare’s What’s Wrong With New York? for the youths. Also let it be known that other 2010s Tumblr-era faves have released new music recently: Phantogram’s Memory Of A Day, MGMT’s Loss of Life, Foster the People’s Paradise State of Mind, and Cults’ To The Ghosts.

Futuristic: To me, the future sounds like Magdalena Bay’s Imaginal Disk, Lucky Daye’s Algorithm, and Tierra Whack’s WORLD WIDE WHACK. Lastly, the late great SOPHIE, whose work not only ushered in a new era of music, but tbh “Intro (The Full Horror)” is the spookiest stuff I’ve heard in a while. Appropriate!
